Next-generation Drilling Vessels, built by Jurong are for Brazil

After 2 years 7 next-generation drilling vessels are going to be built at the Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz shipyard, Brazil, which is a wholly-owned shipyard of the Singapore based Jurong Shipyard.

The ships are the 1st in a series of high-efficiency drilling vessels, which are designed for ultra-deepwater oil and gas operations. They are planned to be used to drill wells in the offshore pre-salt fields off the Brazilian south-east coast. The new-generation drilling vessels are going to be delivered to Sete Brazil, which is a company established in 2010 by different Brazilian and international investors. Upon the delivery of the ships, the 7 new-generation drilling vessels are going to be chartered to Petrobras for 15 years. There are 3 of the vessels which are partially going to owned and operated for Petrobas by Odfjell and 3 by Seadrill, both companies based in Norway.

The power and automation technology group ABB is going to secure the design, supply, supervision of installation, testing and commissioning of the major electrical systems of the new ships.
The orders that the company recently announced, were booked in the 4th quarter of last year and 1st quarter of this year.

The scope of supply of ABB is including full electrical systems including generators, distribution switchboards, transformers, drives and motors to power the vessels’ thrusters and drilling systems.

Equipment deliveries to the shipyard are being planned for 2013, with the 1st ship to be delivered to the shipowner in the 2nd quarter of 2015.
